“The Indian government this week launched an ambitious fight back against food distribution problems that — alongside countries like Bangladesh and Timor-Leste — have put it near the top of the list for underweight children under the age of five. The $22 billion-a-year welfare scheme aims to sell subsidized wheat and rice to 67% of its 1.2 billion people. In een land, waarde inkomensverschillen zo groot zijn als in India, is dit een opmerkelijk plan. Het is nog even de vraag of dit vooral goed nieuws is voor de armen, de transportsector of de regeringspartij. Op dit moment ligt veel van het overvloedige voedsel te rotten in graagsilo’s. In het kader van “Taste the Waste” is het dus zeker een goed plan! Overigens vind ik het particuliere initiatief Share My Dabba in dit verband wel zo sympathiek.
